In a call with President Trump, President Vladimir V. Putin agreed to pause strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure for 30 days. That falls short of the unconditional cease-fire Ukraine had already agreed to.

The Kremlin said that the call had ended but did not provide further details, according to the Russian state news agency Tass. It was the first known conversation between the two men since Ukraine agreed to support a monthlong cease-fire.
