Zohran Mamdani officially took office as mayor after the New Year's Eve ball drop, in a private ceremony held at a shuttered relic of the city's subway.
The 34-year-old Queens state assemblyman was sworn in as the 112th mayor by New York Attorney General Letitia James below City Hall in the abandoned old subway stop.
