The party later deleted the post on X, formerly known as Twitter, but appeared unrepentant about the message, saying it was removed because of the platform's rules and complaining about restrictions on free speech.
The deleted post read: "Anyone who murders Kamala Harris would be an American hero."

A gunman crawled through shrubbery near former President Donald Trump's golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, Sunday afternoon, coming within 500 yards of the former president, authorities said. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was hiding with the barrel of his AK-47-style rifle poking through a fence when it was spotted by a Secret Service agent, the last line of defense between that weapon and Trump, the Republican nominee for president.
"With a rifle and scope, like, that is not a long distance," Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said at a news conference Sunday afternoon.

Reacting to the second attempted assassination of Donald Trump, the Tesla billionaire responded to a post asking why people want to kill the former president. "And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala," Musk wrote, adding a thinking-face emoji.
The condemnation was swift. Grassroots political groups DemsMight called the post "literally incitement." Conservative commentator Jonah Goldberg slammed Musk's take as "appalling and indefensible," while former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) advised the billionaire to "get help," adding that his tweet was "unhinged and dangerous."

"I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes - It was certainly an interesting day!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform just hours after Secret Service personnel opened fire at a gunman hiding in bushes as the Republican nominee played a round at his course in West Palm Beach. Trump was unharmed during the incident which came two months after he was wounded by another shooter at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
"Most importantly, I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service, [Palm Beach County] Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated Patriots, and, all of Law Enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican Nominee in the upcoming Presidential Election, SAFE," Trump continued in his post.

They claim that concerted attempts to demonize Donald Trump as a threat to democracy are putting his life at risk.
Hours after Sunday's failed shooting plot at Trump's West Palm Beach golf club, his senior campaign manager Chris LaCivita posted a video of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calling Trump "extraordinarily dangerous" and a "threat to democracy."
