Trump Campaign Playbook: Paint Kamala as ‘Ruthless' and ‘Power-Hungry'
Sen. Kamala Harris may be on the bottom of the Democratic presidential ticket, but President Donald Trump's allies plan to portray her as far more than just a running mate. If Joe Biden prevails in November, the line from Team Trump will go, the California Democrat will effectively be the president of the United States. It's an extension of a line of attack against Biden that the Trump campaign has hammered for weeks: that he is incapable of governing and would effectively be a vessel for other interests in the Democratic Party to govern by proxy. In Harris, Trump allies say, Biden has selected a perfect foil to ramp up that line of attack."The playbook on Kamala is pretty simple," a plugged-in Trumpworld source told The Daily Beast. "Right now the message on Biden—and it's the first effective frame the campaign has sustained on Biden—is that he's an empty shell for the radical left. Kamala Harris is a power-hungry politician. She comes across as ruthless. So it's a believable frame that she'd be running the administration for empty shell Joe Biden."The source, who, like others, requested anonymity to speak candidly about Trump re-election strategy, acknowledged that the strategy will likely elicit cries of sexism from Biden, Harris, and other Democrats. But Trump's political machine nonetheless sees it as both consistent with recent Biden messaging that they feel has been effective and a line of attack against Harris that Trump and his allies can make stick.Sen. Kamala Harris Tapped as Joe

Mike Pence ‘Can't Wait' for Kamala Harris Showdown: ‘It's On,' He Says, Grimacing
Vice President Mike Pence cannot contain his excitement (or dread?) about facing off against Kamala Harris on the debate stage. In an interview with Sean Hannity on Wednesday night, half grimacing and half apparently swallowing back a little sob, the former Indiana governor told the Fox News host he "can't wait" to take on Harris during the vice presidential debate in Utah on Oct. 7. "I just have to tell you, I like the matchup. It's on, Sean," he said with a pained expression. After claiming the Democratic ticket had been "overtaken by the radical left," Pence spent most of the interview regurgitating Trump campaign talking points and gushing over the president, who he said is a sure bet to win the Nov. 3 election. "I can't wait to get back out there. I'll be in Iowa tomorrow telling the story of what this president has done, how we made this country stronger, more prosperous in our first three years, how President Trump has seen us through the worst pandemic in 100 years ..." "I think the American people are going to vote for four more years of President Donald Trump in the White House," he said, citing recent unrest in Chicago and Portland as a reason for voters to avoid "radical" Harris and Biden.  Asked about Harris' infamous takedown of Biden during the Democratic debates, Pence told Hannity the former California attorney general's ruthless prosecutorial skills are no match for Trump's dazzling track record: "I think she is a skilled debater, but I can't wait to get to Salt

For new book, Bob Woodward obtained 'extraordinary' letters between Trump and Kim Jong Un
Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Bob Woodward's new book about President Trump now has a name: Rage.Rage is scheduled for release on Sept. 15, and people familiar with the book's contents told CNN it goes into detail about how Trump makes decisions and his thoughts on the coronavirus pandemic, national security, and the Black Lives Matter protests.Rage will be published by Simon & Schuster, the same company behind recent tell-alls by former National Security Adviser John Bolton and the president's niece, Mary Trump. CEO Jonathan Karp told CNN Rage is "the most important book Simon & Schuster will publish this year. Every voter should read it before Nov. 3."In January, Trump announced that he sat down with Woodward for the book; he ignored earlier interview requests from Woodward when the author was working on his 2018 tome, Fear, and criticized the book after it was published. CNN reports that Woodward recorded hundreds of hours of interviews with Trump and other people close to him and the White House, and also obtained "notes, emails, diaries, calendars, and confidential documents," including 25 personal letters between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.A person familiar with the letters called them "extraordinary," and Simon & Schuster revealed that in one of them, "Kim describes the bond between the two leaders as out of a 'fantasy film.'"More stories from theweek.com The case against American truck bloat Trump's pay

Our Cartoon President: Season One with World Class Amenities
When political times are bad, humor is often the only remedy. Stephen Colbert tries to help here with an animated parody of President Donald Trump, his family and staff- first seen in small segments on his "Late Show" but expanded to a half-hour series for Showtime (where there's much less content restriction.) Everyone, on both political sides, is depicted here as caricatures as you'd see in newspaper political cartoons- Trump with an orange face and obviously fake hair, his wife Melania looking and talking a bit like "Natasha" from Rocky and Bullwinkle, daughter Ivanka as a stereotypical "valley girl" and (now-former) Attorney General Jeff Sessions oddly as a small gnome-like being, to name just a few. Each episode is given a loose plot that seems to exist mainly just to support the jokes the wri...Read the entire review
