The U.S. Central Command said the blockade would be "enforced impartially against vessels of all nations" from 10 a.m. EDT, following the breakdown of talks after 21 hours of negotiations.

Brent crude oil, the international standard, rose $7.04, or 7.4 per cent, to $102.24 US a barrel on Monday. That's up from roughly $70 per barrel before the war in late February. Markets in France, Britain, Germany, Japan, South Korea and more also declined.
