There’s no way FBI Director James Comey is going to emerge unscathed from his agency’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s unsecure server and the emails that it received, stored, sent, and forwarded.

Given the stunning announcement that he was reopening the criminal investigation of Clinton and equally stunning announcement Sunday of "NEVER MIND" has created even more head scratching about Comey's rationale and influence on a national election.

According to confirmed reports, the FBI seized electronic devices in the possession of Anthony Weiner during the course of an investigation into his sexting with an underage girl for which he is now in legal jeopardy. Since Weiner is married to Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin, the FBI were legally entitled to access her emails on those same devices. This decade-old computer had ten year old emails on them--some of which were exchanged with Hillary Clinton.

Whatever the source of the new evidence, it may have provided the excuse or pretext that Comey so desperately needed to remedy the wrong perceived by many. A legal ‘do over’, if you will. However, it now appears that Comey has reached the same conclusion as he did before –that prosecutors could not prove Clinton broke the law. His initial statement ten days ago stressed he did not know the ‘importance’ of the new emails.

Either way, this was not good news for Hillary Clinton. Just the implication that there may be "undiscovered" emails caused a significant impact to her lead in the campaign.

What do you think?

  • Should Comey have reviewed the emails first before sending a note to Congress?
  • What do you think Comey's motivations were?
  • Do you believe Comey felt compelled after the backlash to review the mails as quickly as possible?
  • Do you think that Comey will survived this rather messy episode?
  • Do you believe that Comey's actions had an effect on the election?
  • What advice would you have given Comey in light of his Lose-Lose scenario?
  • Do you believe more will be found in various computers regarding Clinton's emails?
  • Do you believe that Clinton is guilty of "something"?

Worded as it's worded there, I have no problem with the FBI re-opening the investigation. I assume this investigation is going to be re-opened several times before the end of Hillary's presidency. In fact, it is assumed Republicans are going to perpetually investigate Hillary, it's just what they do. I would put about $100 million into the GOP budget under the heading "Hillary Investigations.

Sending a letter to Republicans when there was zero new information, knowing they were going to broadcast it, was the big mistake. It has probably cost Democrats the Senate, which means four more years of a Republican do-nothing congress. And it sets a precedence to all future FBI directors they can do the same. Why not let us know if the FBI is investigating Trump's Russian connections? By GOP logic, isn't it better to know before we vote than finding out after the election?

And, since the investigation did not turn out to be worse than Watergate as Trump claimed, why isn't Hillary reminding voters they can change their vote if they voted for Trump based on the FBI letter?

Perhaps Comey simply didn't want to die as several have who crossed the Clintons.

To have skeletal feet sticking up in your back yard, regardless of who did what, is strongly suggestive of a warning.

America continues its plummet on the downward slide, thanks to the love of money and power.

Comey has demonstrated that he has lost control of the FBI. The question at this point is whether he is motivated enough to begin to weed out those lawless, anti-Clinton elements that provoked the mistake, or whether a new broom is needed. Comey has admitted that the FBI has become less diverse under his directorship, but I think he should resign for the good of the country and President Clinton should appoint a new broom to clean things up.
