Leading a turnaround: An interview with the chairman of D&B As chief executive of D&B (formerly Dun & Bradstreet) from 2000 until 2005, Allan Loren led a successful turnaround of the venerable business services company, which during the 1990s had staggered under the burden of a confused brand, poor financials, and a shareholder revolt. Loren, the former CIO of American Express, dramatically improved D&B's performance by transforming its business model and culture.
The take-away: In this interview, Loren describes how he led an effective turnaround by focusing the company on raising its earnings and developing its leaders. He encouraged its disparate parts to swim in one direction, even as its brand and culture changed dramatically.
